The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released December 2022 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- All items rose .2% in the last month and increased 8.2% in the last twelve months
- Food at home rose 0.6% from November and increased by 13.0% since December 2021
- Cereal + bakery products rose .9% in the last month and rose 16.2% in the last twelve months
- Meats, poultry, fish + eggs increased 0.2% since November and rose 9.0% since December 2021
- Dairy + related products rose 0.5% in the last month and increased 15.9% in the last twelve months
- Fruits + vegetables increased 1.4% from November and rose 10.4% since December 2021
- Other foods decreased 0.2% in the last month and rose 15.2% in the last twelve months
- Energy commodities decreased 5.4% from November 2022 and increased 19.7% since December 2021
- Gasoline (all types) decreased 5.6% in the last month and rose 18.2% in the last twelve months
- Commodities, less food + energy commodities, decreased 0.3% from November and increased 6.6% since December 2021
- Apparel rose 2.2% in the last month and increased by 5.5% in the last twelve months
- New vehicles increased by 0.4% from November and increased 9.4% since December 2021
- Used cars + trucks decreased 4.2% in the last month and rose by 7.2% in the last twelve months
- Motor vehicle parts + equipment rose 0.8% from November and increased 13.4% since December 2021
- Medical care commodities decreased 0.1% in the last month and increased 3.7% in the last twelve months
- Alcoholic beverages rose 0.1% since November and increased 4.1% from December 2021
- Tobacco + smoking products increased 0.2% in the last month and rose by 8.2% in the last twelve months
- Personal care products increased 0.4% from November and rose by 6.5% since December 2021
