The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released July 2022 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- The All items category was unchanged month over month and increased 8.5% in the last twelve months
- All items, less food & energy, rose 0.3% from June 2022 and increased 5.9% since July 2021
- Commodities, less food & energy, rose 0.2% in the last month and increased 7.0% in the last twelve months
- Energy commodities decreased 7.6% from June 2022 and rose 44.9% since July 2021
- Gasoline (all types) decreased 7.7% in the last month and increased 44.0% in the last twelve months
- Food at home rose 1.4% since June 2022 and increased 13.1% from July 2021
- Cereals + bakery products increased 2.0% in the last month and rose 15.0% in the last twelve months
- Meats, poultry, fish + eggs rose 0.6% from June 2022 and increased 10.9% from July 2021
- Dairy + related products rose 1.7% in the last month and increased 14.9% in the last twelve months
- Fruits + vegetables rose 0.4% from June 2022 and increased 9.3% since July 2021
- Other foods rose 2.0% in the last month and increased by 15.9% in the last twelve months
- Alcoholic beverages rose 0.3% from June 2022 and increased 4.2% since July 2021
- Apparel decreased 1.1% in the last month and increased 5.1% in the last twelve months
- Household furnishings + supplies increased 0.4% since June 2022 and rose 10.8% from July 2021
- Medical care commodities rose 0.6% in the last month and increased by 3.7% in the last twelve months
- Personal care products increased 1.0% from June 2022 and rose by 5.0% since July 2021
- Tobacco and smoking products increased 0.3% in the last month and rose 7.7% in the last twelve months
- New vehicles increased by 0.6% from June 2022 and rose 10.4% since July 2021
- Used cars + trucks rose 0.3% in the last month and increased 6.6% in the last twelve months
- Motor vehicle parts + equipment increased 0.4% since June 2022 and rose 14.1% from July 2021
