The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released September 2023 Consumer Price Index (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- All items increased 0.2% in the last month and rose 3.7% in the last twelve months
- Food at home increased 0.1% from August and increased 2.4% since September 2022
- Cereals + bakery products fell 0.3% in the last month and increased 4.8% in the last twelve months
- Meats, poultry, fish + eggs increased 0.4% since August and rose 0.2% from September 2022
- Dairy + related products saw no change in the last month and fell 0.2% in the last twelve months
- Fruits + vegetables increased 0.2% from August and increased 0.8% since September 2022
- Other foods decreased 0.1% in the last month and increased 4.0% in the last twelve months
- Gasoline (all types) rose 0.6% since August and decreased 3.0% from September 2022
- All items, less food and energy, rose 0.2% in the last month and increased 4.1% in the last twelve months
- Apparel rose by 1.4% from August and increased 2.3% since September 2022
- New vehicles saw no change in the last month and rose 2.5% in the last twelve months
- Used cars + trucks decreased 5.6% since August and fell 8.0% from September 2022
- Motor vehicle parts + equipment fell 1.5% in the last month and decreased 0.3% in the last twelve months
- Medical care commodities decreased 0.3% from August and increased 4.2% since September 2022
- Alcoholic beverages rose 0.6% in the last month and increased 4.2% in the last twelve months
- Tobacco + smoking products rose 0.2 % since August and increased 5.6% from September 2022
- Personal care products increased 0.4% in the lat month and rose 5.1% in the last twelve months
