The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released April 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
All items rose 0.3% in the last month and increased 2.3% in the last twelve months
Food at home saw no change from March and rose 2.0% since April 2024
Cereals + bakery products fell 0.7% in the last month and saw no change in the last twelve months
Meats, poultry, fish + eggs fell 0.9% since March and rose 7.0% from April 2024
Dairy + related products decreased 0.2% in the last month and increased 1.6% in the last twelve months
Fruits + vegetables fell 0.3% from March and decreased 0.9% since April 2024
Other foods increased 0.2% in the last month and rose 0.5% in the last twelve months
Gasoline (all types) rose 2.9% since March and decreased 11.8% from April 2024
All items, less food and energy, increased 0.3% in the last month and rose 2.8% in the last twelve months
Apparel fell 1.1% from March and dropped 0.7% since April 2024
New vehicles rose 0.4% in the last month and increased 0.3% in the last twelve months
Used cars + trucks increased 0.5% since March and rose 1.5% from April 2024
Motor vehicle parts + equipment fell 0.1% in the last month and rose 1.2% in the last twelve months
Medical care commodities rose 0.4% from March and increased 1.0% since April 2024
Alcoholic beverages saw no change in the last month and rose 1.8% in the last twelve months
Tobacco + smoking rose 0.3% since March and increased 7.1% from April 2024
Personal care products increased 0.1% in the last month and rose 0.4% in the last twelve months
