The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released January 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
All items rose 0.7% in the last month and increased 3.0% in the last twelve months
Food at home rose 0.8% from December and increased 1.9% since January 2024
Cereals + bakery products fell 0.2% in the last month and rose 0.4% in the last twelve months
Meats, poultry, fish + eggs rose 1.7% since December and increased 6.1% from January 2024
Dairy + related products increased 0.3% in the last month and rose 1.2% in the last twelve months
Fruits + vegetables increased 0.3% from December and rose 0.6% since January 2024
Other foods rose 0.1% in the last month and increased 0.2% in the last twelve months
Gasoline (all types) rose 1.8% since December and decreased 0.2% from January 2024
All items, less food and energy, rose 0.6% in the last month and increased 3.3% in the last twelve months
Apparel increased 0.4% from December and increased 0.9% since January 2024
New vehicles rose by 0.3% in the last month and fell 0.3% in the last twelve months
Used cars + trucks rose 0.5% since December and increased 1.0% from January 2024
Motor vehicle parts + equipment increased 0.8% in the last month and rose 1.4% in the last twelve months
Medical care commodities rose 1.2% from December and increased 2.3% since January 2024
Alcoholic beverages increased 0.3% in the last month and rose 1.4% in the last twelve months
Tobacco + smoking rose 0.4% since December and increased 6.8% from January 2024
Personal care products increased 0.4% in the last month and rose 0.4% in the last twelve months
