The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released December 2021 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. The all items index rose 0.3% in the last month and increased a notable 7.0% in the last twelve months. Commodities, less food + energy, rose by 0.9% from November 2021 and increased 10.7% from December 2020. Cereals + cereal products rose 1.2% in the last month and increased 4.8% in the last twelve months. Food at home rose 0.4% since November 2021 and increased 4.8% from December 2020. Carbonated drinks increased 1.0% in the last month and rose 7.4% in the last twelve months. Used cars + vehicles increased 3.5% from November 2021 and rose 37.8% since December 2020. New vehicles increased 1.3% in the last month and rose by 11.8% in the last twelve months. Motor vehicle parts + equipment rose by 1.6% from November 2021 and increased 11.3% since December 2020. Appliances rose 1.6% in the last month and increased 11.3% in the last twelve months. Household furnishings + supplies rose 1.1% since November 2021 and increased by 7.4% from December 2020. Furniture + bedding rose 2.0% in the last month and increased by 13.8% in the last twelve months. Tobacco + smoking products increased 0.7% from November 2021 and rose 9.0% since December 2020.
