The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released April 2022 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- The all items index rose 0.6% in the last month and increased 8.3% in the last twelve months
- Commodities, less food + energy commodities, remained flat from March to April 2022 and increased 9.7% from April 2021 to April 2022
- Food at home rose by 1.3% in the last month and increased 10.8% in the last twelve months
- Dairy + related products rose 2.4% from March 2022 and increased 9.1% between April 2021 and April 2022
- Beverage materials, including coffee and tea, rose 2.3% in the last month and increased 11.1% in the last twelve months.
- Meats, poultry, fish + eggs rose 1.7% since March 2022 and increased 14.3% from April 2021
- Cereals + bakery products increased by 1.0% in the last month and rose 10.3% in the last twelve months
- Household cleaning products increased rose 1.7% from March 2022 and rose 10.1% from April 2021
- Household paper products rose 0.5% in the last month and increased by 8.0% in the last twelve months
- New cars increased 1.4% since March 2022 and rose 14.2% from April 2021
- Used cars + trucks decreased 0.6% in the last month and increased 22.7% in the last twelve months
- Motor vehicle parts + equipment rose 1.2% since March 2022 and increased by 14.5% from April 2021
- Fuel oil + other fuels rose 1.2% in the last month and increased by 58.8% in the last twelve months
- Tools, hardware + supplies rose 1.2% from March 2022 and increased 10.4% since April 2021
