The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released September 2021 Producer Price Index (PPI) today. The all commodities index rose 1.1% in the last month and increased 20.4% in the last twelve months. Processed foods + feeds increased 1.3% from August 2021 and rose 14.0% since September 2020. Meats increased 3.2% in the last month and rose 40.3% in the last twelve months. Processed poultry increased 1.6% from August 2021 and rose by 30.0% since September 2020. Soft drinks rose 3.5% from August 2021 and increased 7.6% since September 2020.
Textile products + apparel increased 1.3% in the last month and rose 11.6% in the last twelve months. Chemicals + allied products increased 1.0% from August 2021 and rose 24.1% since September 2020. Paints + allied products increased 0.8% in the last month and rose by 10.0% in the last twelve months. Rubber + plastic products increased 1.3% from August 2021 and rose 16.9% since September 2020. Rubber + rubber products increased 0.9% in the last month and rose by 10.7% in the last twelve months. Plastic products increased 1.4% since August 2021 and rose 18.8% since September 2020.
Metals + metal products increased 1.8% in the last month and increased by 42.5% in the last twelve months. Steel mill products increased 5.0% from August 2021 and rose 135.4% since September 2020. Nonferrous wire + cable increased 1.6% in the last month and increased 30.1% in the last twelve months. Hardware increased 1.0% from August 2021 and rose 10.2% since September 2020. Heating equipment increased 0.3% in the last month and rose by 14.1% in the last twelve months. Sheet metal products rose 4.0% since August 2021 and increased 30.7% from September 2020. Fabricated ferrous wire products rose 1.3% in the last month and rose by 21.3% in the last twelve months.
Machinery + equipment rose 0.9% from August 2021 and increased by 5.0% from September 2020. Agricultural machinery + equipment increased 1.5% in the last month and rose 9.2% in the last twelve months. Air conditioning + refrigeration equipment increased by 1.5% from August 2021 and rose 9.2% since September 2020. Electrical machinery + equipment increased 1.2% in the last month and rose 3.6% in the last twelve months. Wiring devices increased 2.2% from August 2021 and rose 24.0% since September 2020. Transformers + power regulators rose by 3.3% in the last month and increased 24.0% in the last twelve months. Switchgear, switchboard, industrial controls equipment increased 3.2% from August 2021 and rose 8.6% from September 2020.
Furniture + household durables increased 1.6% in the last month and rose 9.0% in the last twelve months. Household furniture increased 1.7% from August 2021 and rose 10.8% from September 2020. Commercial furniture rose 2.3% in the last month and increased by 10.7% in the last twelve months. Household appliances increased 2.2% from August 2021 and rose by 5.6% from September 2020. Insultation materials rose 1.7% in the last month and rose 18.8% in the last twelve months.
