The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released May 2022 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- The all items index rose 1.1% over the last month and increased 8.6% over the last twelve months
- Commodities, less food + energy commodities, rose 0.4% from April 2022 and increased 8.5% since May 2021
- Food at home increased 1.3% in the last month and rose 11.9% in the last twelve months
- Cereals + bakery products rose 1.6% since April 2022 and increased 11.6% from May 2021
- Meats, poultry, fish + eggs increased 1.5% in the last month and rose 14.2% in the last twelve months
- Processed fruits + vegetables increased 1.9% from April 2022 and rose 10.2% since May 2021
- Frozen fruits + vegetables increased 1.2% in the last month and rose by 9.1% in the last twelve months
- Nonalcoholic beverages + beverage materials rose 1.0% from April 2022 and increased 12.0% since May 2021
- Energy commodities rose 8.0% in the last month and increased 50.3% in the last twelve months
- Gasoline (all types) increased 7.8% from April 2022 and rose 48.7% since May 2021
- New vehicles increased by 1.0% in the last month and rose 12.6% in the last twelve months
- Used cars + trucks increased 0.7% from April 2022 and rose by 16.1% since May 2021
- Motor vehicle parts + equipment rose 1.5% in the last month and increased by 15.3% in the last twelve months
