The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released July 2023 Consumer Price Index (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- All items increased 1.0% in the last month and rose 2.8% in the last twelve months
- Food at home increased 0.4% from June and increased 3.6% since July 2022
- Cereals + bakery products increased 0.6% in the last month and increased 5.8% in the last twelve months
- Meats, poultry, fish + eggs increased 0.8% since June and rose 0.9% from July 2022
- Dairy + related products rose by 0.3% in the last month and increased 1.3% in the last twelve months
- Fruits + vegetables increased 0.3% from June and increased 2.9% since July 2022 =LH4/LC4
- Other foods rose 0.5% in the last month and increased 4.7% in the last twelve months =LK4/KV4-1
- Gasoline (all types) rose 0.6% since June and decreased 19.9% from July 2022
- All items, less food and energy, decreased 4% in the last month and increased 0.7% in the last twelve months
- Apparel decreased 1.0% from June and rose 3.2% since July 2022
- New vehicles rose by 0.1% in the last month and increased 3.5% in the last twelve months
- Used cars + trucks rose 0.2% since June and fell 5.6% from July 2022
- Motor vehicle parts + equipment decreased 0.4% in the last month and rose 2.9% in the last twelve months
- Medical care commodities rose 0.5% from June and increased 4.1% since July 2022
- Alcoholic beverages fell 0.1% in the last month and rose 2.7% in the last twelve months
- Tobacco + smoking products rose 0.5 % since June and increased 6.1% from July 2022
- Personal care products increased 0.5% in the lat month and rose 6.3% in the last twelve months
