The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released January 2021 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. The all items index rose 0.4% from December 2020 and increased 1.4% from January 2020. Food saw a 0.3% rise in the last month and increased 3.8% in the last twelve months. Household paper products saw an increase of 0.5% from December 2020 and rose by 9.1% from January 2020. Carbonated drinks increased by 3.5% in the last month and increased 7.4% in the last twelve months. Tobacco and smoking products increased 1.8% from December 2020 and saw an increase of 6.7% since January 2020. Canned vegetables increased 2.0% in the last month and saw an increase of 6.5% in the last twelve months. Household cleaning products rose 0.4% since December 2020 and increased 6.3% from January 2020. Appliances rose 0.3% in the last month and increased 5.7% in the last twelve months. Meats, poultry, fish and eggs increased 0.5% since December 2020 and rose by 5.1% from January 2020. Juices and nonalcoholic drinks increased 1.4% in the last month and saw a 5.0% increase in the last twelve months.
