The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released February 2022 Consumer Price Index (CPI) today. The all items index rose 0.9% in the last month and increased 7.9% in the last twelve months. Used cars + trucks increased 0.8% from January 2022 and rose 41.2% since February 2021. Gasoline (all types) increased 5.4% in the last month and rose 38.0% in the last twelve months. Motor vehicle parts + equipment increased 1.6% from January 2022 and rose by 14.3% from February 2021. Meats, poultry, fish + eggs rose 0.9% in the last month and increased by 13.0% in the last twelve months. New vehicles increased 0.3% in the last month and increased 12.4% in the last twelve months. Major appliances increased 1.2% from January 2022 and rose 11.1% since February 2021. Tools, hardware, outdoor equipment + supplies rose 0.6% in the last month and increased 10.6% in the last twelve months. Food at home rose 1.4% from January 2022 and increased 8.6% since February 2021. Commodities, less food + energy commodities, increased 1.0% in the last month and rose 12.3% in the last twelve months.
