The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released August 2022 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- All items were unchanged in the last month and increased 8.3% in the last twelve months
- All items, less food + energy, rise 0.5% from July 2022 and rose 6.3% since August 2021
- Commodities, less food + energy commodities, rose 0.5% in the last month and increased by 7.1% in the last twelve months
- Energy commodities decreased 11.7% from July 2022 and increased 27.1% since August 2021
- Gasoline (all types) increased 0.7% in the last month and rose 13.5% in the last twelve months
- Food at home rose 0.7% from July 2022 and increased 13.5% since August 2021
- Cereals + bakery products increased 1.0% in the last month and rose 16.4% in the last twelve months
- Meats, poultry, fish + eggs rose 0.2% from July 2022 and increased 10.6% since August 2021
- Dairy + related products increased by 0.7% in the last month and rose 16.2% in the last twelve months
- Fruits + vegetables rose 0.4% from July 2022 and increased 9.4% since August 2021
- Other foods rose 0.9% in the last month and increased by 16.6% in the last twelve months
- Alcoholic beverages rose 0.5% from July 2022 and increased 4.3% since August 2021
- Apparel increased by 1.7% in the last month and rose 5.1% in the last twelve months
- Medical care commodities increased 0.2% from July 2022 and rose by 4.1% since August 2021
- Personal care products rose 1.5% in the last month and increased 6.0% in the last twelve months
- Tobacco + smoking products increased 1.1% since July 2022 and rose 8.8% from August 2021
- New vehicles rose by 0.6% in the last month and increased 10.1% in the last twelve months
- Used cars + trucks decreased 0.4% from July 2022 and rose 7.8% since August 2021
- Motor vehicle parts + equipment rose 1.1% in the last month and increased by 13.4% in the last twelve months
