The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released January 2023 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- All items decreased by 0.1% in the last month and rose 6.4% in the last twelve months
- All items, less energy, increased 0.3% from December 2022 and rose 6.4% from January 2022
- Food + beverages rose 0.7% in the last month and increased 9.9% in the last twelve months
- Apparel increased 2.6% since December 2022 and rose 3.1% from January 2022
- Household furnishings + operations rose 0.9% in the last month and increased by 5.9% in the last twelve months
- Personal care products increased 0.3% from December 2022 and increased 7.1% since January 2022
- Medical care commodities rose 1.1% in the last month and increased 3.4% in the last twelve months
- Recreation increased 0.7% since December 2022 and rose 4.8% from January 2022
