The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released October 2023 Consumer Price Index (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- All items saw no change in the last month and increased 3.2% in the last twelve months
- Food at home increased 0.3% from September and increased 2.1% since October 2022
- Cereals + bakery products saw no change in the last month and increased 4.2% in the last twelve months
- Meats, poultry, fish + eggs increased 0.7% since September and rose 0.4% from October 2022
- Dairy + related products saw no change in the last month and decreased 0.4% in the last twelve months
- Fruits + vegetables increased 0.3% from September and increased 1.1% since October 2022
- Other foods rose 0.2% in the last month and increased 3.4% in the last twelve months
- Gasoline (all types) fell 5.3% since September and decreased 5.3% from October 2022
- All items, less food and energy, rose 0.2% in the last month and increased 4.0% in the last twelve months
- Apparel fell 0.3% from September and ose by 2.6%since October 2022
- New vehicles decreased 0.2% in the last month and rose 1.9% in the last twelve months
- Used cars + trucks decreased 7.1% since September and fell 1.4% from October 2022
- Motor vehicle parts + equipment fell 0.3% in the last month and decreased 1.0% in the last twelve months
- Medical care commodities rose 0.4% from September and increased 4.7% since October 2022
- Alcoholic beverages rose 0.3% in the last month and increased 3.7% in the last twelve months
- Tobacco + smoking products rose 1.9% since September and increased 7.2% from October 2022
- Personal care products increased 0.4% in the lat month and rose 5.1% in the last twelve months
