The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released May 2020 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. The All commodities index was unchanged over the last month & has increased 0.1% over the last 12 months on a seasonally unadjusted basis. All items less food and energy decreased 0.1% from April – May 2020 & rose 1.2% between May ’19 – ’20. Commodities less food and energy commodities saw a 1% decrease from May of 2019 to May 2020 and decreased 0.5% in the last month. Food increased 0.6% over the last month & rose 4% over the last 12 months. Meats, poultry, fish and eggs rose 4.2% between April and May 2020 & and increased by 9.8% between May ’19 – ’20. Sugar and sugar substitutes increased by 2.1% from April to May of this year and rose by 9% from May ’19 – ’20. Poultry increased by 2.2% from April to May 2020 and rose by 8.8% from May ’19 – ’20. Chicken rose by 1.9% over the last month and increased by 8.4% over the last 12 months. Cheese and related products had a 0.8% increase in the last month & rose 7% from May 2019 – May 2020. Other processed fruits and vegetables (including dried) saw a 3.1% rise from April – May 2020 and a 6.6% increase from May ’19 – ’20. Frozen fruits and vegetables had rose 1.2% over the last month & increased 6.3% in the last 12 months. Food at home rose 0.8% in the last month and a increased 4.8% between May ’19 – 20. Dairy and related products increased 0.6% over the last month & 0.6% increase increased 5.7% over the last 12 months.
