The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released August 2021 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. The all items index rose 0.2% over the last month and increased 5.3% in the last twelve months. All items, less food + energy, rose 0.1% from July 2021 and increased by 4.0% since August 2020. Food at home increased 0.3% in the last month and rose 3.0% in the last twelve months. Meats, poultry + fish increased 0.4% from July 2021 and rose 7.9% since August 2020. Furniture + bedding rose by 2.3% in the last month and increased 9.5% in the last twelve months. New cars + trucks rose 0.9% since July 2021 and rose 7.7% from August 2020. Used cars + trucks decreased 1.4% in the last month and rose 31.9% in the last twelve months. Motor vehicle parts + equipment increased 1.7% from July 2021 and rose by 6.1% since August 2020. Tools, hardware + supplies rose 2.0% in the last month and increased 5.1% in the last twelve months. Appliances increased by 1.2% from July 2021 and rose 4.3% since August 2020. Apparel increased 1.8% in the last month and rose by 4.2% in the last twelve months.
