The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released May Producer Price Indexes (PPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- Farm products fell 0.1% in the last month and decreased 9.0% in the last twelve months
- Processed foods + feeds rose 0.3% from April and increased 0.8% since May 2023
- Textile products + apparel increased 0.3% in the last month and rose 0.7% in the last twelve months
- Fuels, related products + power fell 4.8% since April and decreased 10.6% from May 2023
- Chemicals + allied products decreased 0.8% in the last month and fell 3.7% in the last twelve months
- Rubber + plastic products fell 0.1% since April and decreased 1.1% since May 2023
- Lumber + wood products decreased 0.9% in the last month and fell 3.2% in the last twelve months
- Pulp, paper + allied products rose 0.5% since April and increased 1.1% from May 2023
- Metals + metal products increased 1.2% in the last month and increased 1.0% in the last twelve months
- Machinery + equipment saw no change from April and rose 4.2% since May 2023
- Furniture + household durables rose 0.4% in the last month and increased 1.7% in the last twelve months
- Nonmetallic mineral products saw no change since April and increased 5.4% from May 2023
- Transportation equipment also saw no change in the last month and increased 2.3% in the last twelve months
- Miscellaneous products increased 1.5% from April and increased 7.9% since May 2023
