The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released December 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- All items saw no change in the last month and increased 2.7% in the last twelve months
- Food at home increased 0.5% since November and rose 2.4% from December 2024
- Cereals + bakery products rose 0.2% in the last month and increased 1.5% in the last twelve months
- Meats, poultry, fish + eggs fell 0.2% since November and rose 3.9% from December 2024
- Dairy + related products decreased 0.9% in the last month and rose 0.9% in the last twelve months
- Fruits + vegetables saw no change from November and rose 0.5% since December 2024
- Other foods rose 1.6% in the last month and increased 2.2% in the last twelve months
- Gasoline (all types) fell 5.3% since November and decreased 3.4% from December 2024
- All items, less food and energy, saw no change in the last month and rose 2.6% in the last twelve months
- Apparel decreased 1.3% from November and increased 0.6% since December 2024
- New vehicles fell 0.3% in the last month and rose 0.3% in the last twelve months
- Used cars + trucks decreased 1.7% since November and increased 1.6% from December 2024
- Motor vehicle parts + equipment increased 1.0% in the last month and rose 3.5% in the last twelve months
- Medical care commodities rose 0.3% from November and increased 1.5% since December 2024
- Alcoholic beverages fell 0.1% in the last month and increased 2.1% in the last twelve months
- Tobacco + smoking products decreased 0.2% since November and rose 6.8% from December 2024
- Personal care products fell 0.3% in the last month and rose 1.5% in the last twelve months
